Nairobi, Maasai Mara, Lamu

March 9 – 18, 2019

(option to stay for the Lamu Yoga Festival from March 18 – 22, 2019)

Join me for this slightly nomadic, highly engaging and richly textured journey into Africa.  We will safari through Maasai Mara, and enjoy the rich culture and sandy beaches of Lamu Island (a UNESCO heritage site).  Our accommodations will be clean and comfortable, but as you would expect with Inspiration Heals, our journey will be as authentic and filled with culture and adventure as possible.  Morning yoga on the tundra with animals in the background in Maasai Mara and sunset boat rides with beach barbecues in Lamu...it is going to be magical.

Included in your trip:

  • transportation to Nairobi hotel (if arrival is within group pick-up window)
  • 1 night in Nairobi (possible visit to Elephant and Giraffe orphanage)
  • 4 day safari into the famous Masai Mara national park, visit a Masai village and hot air balloon ride
  • daily guided game drives to view wildlife
  • 5 days in Lamu (Shela town) with all excursions
  • yoga, meditation and mantra practice daily
  • all meals on safari (excluding alcohol)
  • brunch and dinner in Lamu
  • internal flights from Nairobi to Lamu

Accommodations

We will spend our fist night in Nairobi, followed by a 4 day, 3 night safari in a tented safari camp.  Our journey continues onto Lamu where we will be staying at the magnificent Fatima’s Tower.

Situated on the fringes of the Indian Ocean, the Lamu Archipelago is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where life still retains the pace of traditional Swahili culture. Life here revolves around the sea. Lamu was an established Arab trading port as long ago as the 10th Century and fishing, trading and seafaring remains its principal activity to this day. Arabic architecture and rich inlaid door carvings hint at an affluent past and the waterfront streets of Lamu and Shella ring with the five daily calls to prayer.

Getting there:

You will need flights to Nairobi International Airport on March 9th and from Lamu airport on March 18th.  Kenya Airways now has direct flights from New York to Nairobi.  You will also need a single entry visa to enter Africa.  This can be done online for about $50.00.  At the end of the retreat, on March 18th, you will be responsible for your own transportation back to Nairobi (fly540, jambojet, SAX, skyward express).  You may also choose to stay with us for the Lamu Yoga Festival from March 18 – 22.  If you choose this option, you can also choose accommodation on a catamaran for the duration of the festival.
